When Elize and Anton Olivier were enjoying their time in Timbavati Picnic Site in Kruger National Park, South Africa, they noticed an unusual noise coming from one of the trees. They thought it was a bird at first, but after close inspection, they saw that it was a baby squirrel that too young to open its eyes. The poor thing was hanging from its neck by a thorn.
The squirrel’s mother was nowhere to be found. So this couple took charge and rescued the little baby on their own. They guessed it was around 2 weeks old, so his chances of survival in the wild alone were next to nothing. They named him Thorn and now he is doing well in the capable hands of Elize and Anton Olivier in Letaba.
