This beautiful video shot by Christian and Ginette Leroy shows a rare daytime footage of a wild elephant giving birth at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) in Chobi National Park, Botswana. A mother elephant is seen delivering her baby in the video with full faith that her herd and keepers are going to keep her baby safe from the predators.
There surely is no better way to enter the world with everyone around you guarding for your safety and helping every bit they can. Just seconds after the momma elephant gives birth, the blissful herd of elephants gathers around him in order to guard and protect the precious baby.
It is actually amazing to see them lifting him gently and sweeping dust over his body to keep the little baby’s skin safe from the sun. It is so wonderful to see the herd show support to the mother by gathering around her and assuring her they are going to be safe, through their presence.
The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) is a Kenyan-based nonprofit organization dedicated towards the protection and conservation of wildlife and habitats. It‘s the most successful elephant orphanage in the world dedicated towards rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and rhinos. Sadly, most of these animals that have lost their mothers are often the victims of poaching.
